T. Narasipur, Oct. 30 (SK&DM)- The Gunja Narasimhaswamy temple situated near the confluence of three rivers here will undergo renovation, thanks to the efforts made by aesthete devotee of the deity, Dr. Ramanuja Iyengar, an NRI who has been successful in obtaining the approval of the Archaeological Department for the renovation work.

The restoration work will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crore.

In the presence of concerned officers and some dignitaries, the agreement for the renovation was signed at the office of the Director of Archaeology and Museums in Mysore.

On behalf of Dr. Ramanuja Iyengar, his son N.V. Achar, the administrator of the temple Narasimhan, Kanthekatte Gopalaswamy, artist Srihari, Dharmadarshi Pullari Mahadevu, Bairapur Gram Panchayat member Vishakanta, Shivaraj, Sreedhar, Ahmed, Director R. Gopal and Thahasildar Maligeshankar were present on the occasion.

Along with the Gunja Narasimhaswamy temple, there are many other temples like Sri Agasthyeshwara temple, Sri Balleshwara temple, Sri Moolasthaneshwara temple in the surrounding area. The chariot festival of Sri Gunja Narasimhaswamy which is conducted every year is attended by thousands of people. Also the Kumbha Mela at the confluence which is conducted once in three years is another important celebration in the taluk. It is a place of religious prominence.

In a holy place such as this, to take up a renovation of temple is a welcome sign. Its renovation will enhance the glamour of the town and helps its all round development.

Dr. Ramanuja Iyengar, Cardio-logist, who was born in T. Narasipur town, has settled in Florida, USA.

Since the Deputy Commissioner, Mysore District, and the Director of Archaeology and Museums took active interest in this venture, the Government of Karnataka has recently accorded approval to this project. It is intended to complete the project in about 30 months. Utmost care would be taken to restore the temple without damaging its ancient features.
