Kannada can face new challenges, says VC

Kannada language with its own culture, history and tradition has inherent strength to face the challenges of liberalisation, globalisation and privatisation, Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University Professor B S Sherigara felt.

He was speaking at a programme organised to felicitate those who strove for the betterment of the State and the language in the city on Wednesday to mark the 50th Kannada Rajyotsava.

Students who had secured the highest marks in Kannada were also felicitated. The programme was organised by the district administration and the Kannada Sahitya Parishat at Dr Ambedkar Bhavan on Wednesday evening.

“When we were children there was no need to learn many languages. But the present scenario is a changed one. As a result the teachers need to equip the children to face new challenges of our times”, he added.

In the present day scenario learning as many languages as possible is appropriate. One should not have inhibitions with regard to learning languages, he observed. Dayaton P Nagaraj’s books “Shikshanadali Tatvashastra mathu Samajashastra” and “Shaikshanika Kriya Samshodhane” were released on the occasion.

Principal District and Sessions Judge V B Shiriyannavar, DC’s HQA Omkaramurthy and Konanduru Lingappa were among those present on the occasion. Cultural programmes were organised on the occasion.
