ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕನ್ನಡ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿಗಳ ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವೇದಿಕೆ ( ಈಕವಿ ) ವತಿಯಿಂದ ೫ನೇ ಶನಿವಾರ ೨೦೦೮ ರಂದು  ನಾಗಮಂಗಲದ ಬಾಲಕರ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆ ಹಾಗು ಬಾಲಕಿಯರ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪ್ರಥಮಿಖ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ನೋಟ್ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಹಾಗು ಬರವಣಿಗೆ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.   ಇದೇ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ  ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಚಿತ್ರಕಲಾ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ ಹಾಗು ಕನ್ನಡ ರಸಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು.  ವಿಜೇತ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಸಂತೋಷವೂ ಆಯಿತು.  ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ನಾಗಮಂಗಲ ತಾಲ್ಲುಕಿನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಅದಿಕಾರಿ ಹಾಗು ಸಮನ್ವಯ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳೂ ಆಗಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರಯ್ಯರವರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.  ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ಅವರ ಮೂಲಕ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.  ನಂತರ ಈಕವಿಯ ಕೆಲವು ಸದಸ್ಯರಮೂಲಕ ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ನಂತರ ಚಿತ್ರಕಲಾ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ ಹಾಗು ರಸಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿ ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗಿ ತರಗತಿಗೆ ಒಂದರಂತೆ ಬಹುಮಾನ ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.  ನಂತರ ಸಿಹಿ ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ ದಿಲೀಪ್, ಅಶ್ವಿನ್, ಅಶ್ವಿನ್ ಕುಲಕರ್ಣಿ ಹಾಗು ಬಾಲಾಜಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮಂಡ್ಯದಿಂದ ನಾಗಶ್ರೀ ಹಾಗು ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನ್ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ನಾನು (ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್), ಸಂತೋಷ್, ವಿನೋದ್ ಕುಮಾರ್, ಆದರ್ಶ್ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದೆವು.

The bronze statue of Sangolli Rayanna. HUBLI: A 13-foot bronze statue of freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna will be taken out in a procession at several places in the State, starting on Wednesday, before it is installed in Bangalore on June 29.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, the former minister and adviser to Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Pratishthana H.M. Revanna said that the journey would begin at Kolhapur. The statue would be taken to Nippani, Belgaum, Kittur, Dharwad, Hubli, Haveri, Ranebennur, Harihar, Davangere, Chitradurga, Hiriyur, Shira, Tumkur and Nelamangala before reaching Bangalore.

The statue, which cost Rs. 70 lakh, will be installed at Khoday Circle near Bangalore Railway Station at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore. It will be taken to the venue in a colourful procession.

Mr. Revanna said that the statue was being installed to commemorate Sangolli Rayanna’s sacrifice. He said that preparations had been made to welcome the statue and many organisations and individuals including the Seer of Kaginele Peetha would participate in the function. The statue will be unveiled in August.

Mr. Revanna said that soon the Bangalore Railway Station would be named after Sangolli Rayanna. He said that following the resolution of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in this regard, the State Government had forwarded the proposal to the Railway Board. After getting the consent of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, the proposal had been sent to the Home Ministry for final approval, he said.

Mr. Revanna said that although a residential school had been established at Nandagad in Belgaum, where Sangolli Rayanna was caught and hanged, development had been slow in the region. He urged the State Government to develop Nandagad as a tourist spot.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಗ್ರಾಮಾಂತರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ನೆಲಮಂಗಲ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಮಾರಪ್ಪನಪಾಳ್ಯ ಮೂಲದ ವಿ.ಎಂ.ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ. ೧೯೯೮ ರಿಂದ ಅಕ್ಕ ಕೂಟದ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟಿ , ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾಗಿ - ಅಕ್ಕ ಕೂಟದ ಫೌಂಡರ್‌ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ದುಡಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ೨೦೦೩ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಈಕವಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು. ಇವರ ಕೆಲವು ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳ ಪರಿಚಯ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ…. ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದ ವಿಶ್ವ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪೀಠ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವುದು ಅವರ ಕನಸು. ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಿಶ್ವ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಪೀಠ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಗೆ ಪೆನ್ಸಿಲ್ವೇನಿಯಾ ವಿಶ್ವ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿದೆ. ಪೆನ್ಸಿಲ್ವೇನಿಯಾ ವಿವಿ ನೆರವಿನಲ್ಲಿ WE TALKನ್ನುವ ವೆಬ್‌ ಆಧರಿತ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿಕೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವಿಶ್ವಾದ್ಯಂತ ಇರುವ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೋತ್ರಾಹಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಸಮಾನ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ. ಲಾಸ್‌ ಏಂಜಲೀಸ್‌ನ ಕ್ಯಾಲಿಫೋರ್ನಿಯಾ ವಿಶ್ವ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಪಡೆ ನಡುವೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಕೊಂಡಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

MYSORE: Odanadi, a voluntary organisation working for the rescue and rehabilitation of exploited women and children, appears to have found a soul mate in a group of volunteers in the United Kingdom (UK).

The interest shown by the group of committed volunteers from the UK has given a much-needed boost to Odanadi, which in Kannada means “soul mate”, for the helpless victims of human trafficking.

Odanadi Seva Samsthe, situated in Hootagalli on the outskirts of Mysore, has been providing shelter to more than 90 rescued women and children.

It attempts to erase the scars of a troubled past through the process of reintegration and empowerment. So far, Odanadi has rescued more than 400 girls, mostly minors.

Exhibition of committed volunteers from the UK has not only floated Odanadi UK, and begun working on a website www.odanadi-uk.org , but it has also lined up a series of programmes to raise the profile of Odanadi.

One among them is an exhibition of photographs in the House of Commons later this year.

The exhibition will feature the photographs taken at Odanadi during December 2007 and January 2008. “The women and children were able to use digital cameras to document their lives at Odanadi,” said Sarah Harris, a representative of the committee of Odanadi UK.

Ms. Harris, who is a freelance journalist visiting Mysore, told The Hindu that a member of the UK Parliament, Virendra Sharma, who hails from India, had evinced keen interest in the project.

When the representatives of Odanadi UK met Mr. Sharma recently, he said that “supporting Odanadi UK means that I can do something positive for those affected by human trafficking in my homeland. I very much look forward to developing my relationship with Odanadi UK and hopefully I can visit Odanadi in the near future”.

Meetings The volunteers have begun holding periodic meetings to enlist supporters for the cause and help Odanadi to recruit specialist teachers and therapists to provide continued support to the women and children.

Odanadi Director Stanley said the gesture of Odanadi UK would go a long way in helping the organisation secure specialist counselling and therapy for its victims. “Counselling is an important aspect of rehabilitation at our centre. But, finding full-time counsellers with social commitment is not easy to come by,” he said.

Another Director of Odanadi, Parashuram, said the organisation has been attracting volunteers from all parts of the world.

Even though a born blind Kollegals Gopalkrishna (now settled in Kolar) played the violin. By playing the classical music and janapada songs on the instrument, he won the hearts of the people.
 
 Music is absolutely essential to control a wandering mind. Amongst the many forms of such music, janapada music is also one of them and it is very important to lay a lot of stress on this, said Chokkahalli Chinmaya Sandhipini mutt’s  Sri Yogatmananda Swami.
He was speaking at the Kolar-Chikkaballapur district-level cultural and Janapada programme, jointly organised under the joint auspices of Nehru Youth Centre, Skirds organisation, Dhanamatnahalli and Parvat Rural Development Trust, in Chokkihalli, on Sunday and said janapada means (jana-birth, pada-journey) journey of life and also move towards God.
Since mind is wandering like a monkey all the time, it means controlling it and taking it towards God realisation, he said.
As our ancestors gave a lot of importance to janapada which talked about life, we still the art alive in many forms.
This is what is ‘Janapada Kala mela,’ he said and added everyone should follow this journey, he said.
More than 60 janapda troupes with 180 artistes are participated in this janapada kala mela and displayed their talents.

The 27 year old university has now become a role model for other universities in India by heralding a revolution in e-education. The facilities made available at the Centre are on par with any digital library of the global standards and it is capable of providing any e-information on any subject within no time.

Gulbarga: Gulbarga university has established a state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Research Centre and Digital Library thus giving a philip to study, teaching and research in any branch of the knowledge. The logistics support and assistance is rendered by the Infosys Foundation, charity wing of the IT giant Infosys Technologies Ltd.Equipped with 100 work stations, the main frame servers and COD NAT server provide excellent access internet, COD-ROM Databases and e-learning packages using 2 MBPS leased line for the benefit of students, research scholars and faculty. Access facilities are provided for learning materials of different subjects. Users can work on some of the software for data analysis and research results from the LRC and Academic Commons. Assistance provided by e-resources search and downloading and Network Digital printing facility available on a normal fee.
Congenial ambience
Three units of work stations in LRC with pleasant interior and air condition provide ideal learning opportunities for students, research scholars and faculty.
The VLRC and DL is the brainchild of the University Librarian Dr R B Gaddagimath who has put his heart and soul in realising the dream project. His excellent work has resulted in the Indian Library Association conferring the `ILA-Dr L M Padhya Best University Library Award’ for 2007 to Gulbarga University Library.
Interactive
The Virtual Learning Centre provides the information required within no time as it has digitised hundreds of international journals, research theses and study materials. One of the important features of the Centre is it provides different types f learning packages for students. It is also equipped with interactive type of learning package through which one can evaluate himself. Capacity building an skill development of students is an inherent objective of the Virtual Learning Centre. “Earlier the education was teacher centric and class room based and today it is virtual learning in which student alone is the focal point with the e-information occupying the place of the invisible teacher’’ says Dr Gaddagimath.


Subscription
It has embarked upon Institutional Repository by digitising the publications of the university and faculty along with rare and archival materials. Mirror images of COD/DVDs databases and instructional materials on various subjects have been created on NAT Server in LRC and accessible under network within the library. Though the Centre caters basically to the needs of all the 39 faculties of the university outsiders too can make use of it by becoming subscribers. Dr Gaddagimath said though the efforts were on to network all the faculties in the campus the ultimate goal was to network all the 240 affiliated colleges spread over five districts Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary.
