Bored of reading through voluminous literature about Mysore Dasara? Well, here is a way out to save you from the trouble — just click online and listen to a guided tour to Nada Habba 2006. In yet another IT initiative, the Dasara Tourism Committee has now introduced ‘talking website’, wherein information on any of the major tourist attractions in Mysore can be heard online.

What one needs to do is log on to the Committee’s website — www.mysoretourism.org — and select any place of interest on the home page. An animated lady will first greet and subsequently start narrating the importance of the place.

It may be the Mysore Palace or picturesque Brindavan Gardens or Chamundi Hills, or Mysore Zoo, information about almost all important places will be delivered through voice mode.

To avail this option, one needs to have an internet connection and a multi-media facility. Not only about tourist places, the talking website will also guide tourists about various options available for lodging in Mysore Dasara — which is perhaps the major hurdle a tourist faces in Mysore.

By selecting the lodging option on the home page, the ‘lady’ will brief about hotels available (including luxury, budget and economy hotels) and their locations. Interestingly, Athithi option (Home Stay) is also available. Information on Home Stay facilities in Mysore during all 10-days of the festivities can be heard using this option. Besides, the website is programmed to give all other information on various Dasara events through audio mode.

Plans are also on the cards to convert the website into a dynamic interactive one. Once this is done, the animated lady on the site will answer to any queries about Mysore Dasara and related events.

The new initiative is the brainchild of a local techie Sanjay, who also runs an IT solution company Software Guru. “Our tests have shown that users will look at more pages on your website and stay for longer, if there is a friendly voice guiding them,” Sanjay pointed out.

Audio enhancement of websites is a fast developing area. Because of the huge demand for computer games, music and video, most home internet users now have a computer with speakers attached. This has opened up new and exciting ways of delivering information to potential customers, he added.

A special session of the Karnataka legislative assembly will begin in Belgaum today and at the session Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy is expected to push his pro-Kannada stand further in the matter of Kannada being the medium of instruction in primary schools.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, in the centre of the controversy over his government’s decision to push Kannada as the medium of instruction at the cost of forcing the closure of over 1400 schools.

Earlier the Chief Minister as a fitting inheritor of the son of the soil legacy of his father former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has shown that he would go to extreme lengths to boost the status of Karnataka and even resorting to negative remarks on neighbouring states.

“While Chennai is prone to Tsunamis and LTTE worries, Andhra Pradesh has Naxalite and infrastructure problem,” said Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

And a master stroke — the decision to move all Karnataka MLAs and MLCs to Belgaum for a five-day assembly session, the first time it’s being held out of Bangalore’s Vidhan Soudha. The move comes as nothing short of Karnataka’s proclamation to neighbouring Maharashtra and the Centre, that it will not allow its territorial integrity to be breached.

“The Belgaum session will send out the message loud and clear that Karnataka’s border will not be allowed to be used by politicians of neighbouring states to achieve their personal ends,” said Kumaraswamy.

Whether it is turning the BMIC project controversy from being one allegedly involving personal interests, to an issue of protecting farmer’s interests. Kumaraswamy has always played the Kannada card to perfection. And Monday’s rally will undoubtedly be another perfect example.
